Introduction
The Tiradentes Photo Festival, in partnership with the Rotterdam Photo Festival, and with the support of the Netherlands consulate-general in São Paulo/Brazil, has announced an open call for photographers to explore the theme of "The urban between reality and utopia." This call aims to bring together photography works from various perspectives, including documentary, personal, and poetic images.
Bringing Perspectives Together
The open call invites photographers to capture the essence of urban spaces and explore the interplay between reality and utopia within these environments. The selected images will be shared on the social media platforms of both festivals, including Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, providing a wide audience with the opportunity to appreciate these visual interpretations.
Exhibition and Webinars
At the end of the call, a selection of projects submitted will be showcased through a mesmerizing night projection during the Tiradentes and Rotterdam festivals. This exhibition will offer visitors a unique experience of witnessing diverse visual narratives that delve into the complexity of urban life.
Additionally, the festivals will host three insightful webinars led by experts who will share their perspectives and reflections on the theme of the urban. These webinars will provide a platform for further exploration and discussion of the dynamic relationship between reality and utopia in urban spaces.

The deadline for submitting photography projects is September 20, 2021. To find out more about the open call and its guidelines, visit the webpage .
Exploring the Connection: Hotels and the Urban
Hotels, with their unique positioning within urban landscapes, also play a crucial role in the exploration of the theme "The urban between reality and utopia." These spaces often serve as temporary refuges, offering individuals respite from the busy city life. They can embody both the realities and aspirations of a city, as they are designed to provide comfort and luxury while being deeply intertwined with the surrounding urban fabric. Hotels become utopian havens where guests can experience an alternate reality, often in stark contrast to their everyday lives.
Within the context of the open call, photographers are encouraged to consider hotels as symbolic representations of the urban between reality and utopia. By capturing the essence of these spaces, they can explore the delicate balance between the mundane and the extraordinary, the familiar and the dreamlike, and shed light on the multifaceted nature of urban environments.
